What should I do if the quartz watch is flooded?

   2023-07-07

The current quartz watches are all waterproof, but there are also grades of waterproofing. When our watches are in deep water, they may not be waterproof. If a quartz watch is exposed to water, it is important to take immediate steps to prevent any potential damage to the watch. We are a quartz watch factory, and we will share the solution steps next.

1. Take the watch out of the water: If your watch comes into contact with water or is submerged, take it out of the water immediately. The longer the watch is in contact with water, the greater the risk of damage.

2. Power off the watch: If your quartz watch has a crown (the small knob on the side of the watch), be sure to unscrew it (if it is a screw-in crown) and pull it out to the farthest position. This will stop the movement of the watch and prevent any potential short circuit.

3. Wipe the watch: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the exterior of the watch, including the case, mirror, bracelet, or strap. This will help remove any water droplets or moisture from the surface.

4. Remove the case back (if possible): If you prefer to do this or the watch has a removable case back, you can open it to check for any visible moisture inside the watch. If water is found inside, it is recommended to take the watch to a professional watchmaker for inspection and drying.

5. Dry the watch: Put the watch in a dry and well-ventilated place at room temperature. Avoid heat sources such as hair dryers, as overheating can damage the watch. Allow the watch to air dry for at least 24 to 48 hours to ensure that all moisture has evaporated from the inside of the watch.

6. Professional inspection and maintenance: If you find any problems with the performance of the watch, such as irregular travel time or condensation inside the crystal, it is recommended to take the watch to a professional watchmaker. They can evaluate the watch, remove any remaining moisture, and perform any necessary repairs or maintenance to prevent potential damage.

Always exercise caution and avoid exposure to water or excessive moisture, especially if the watch is not water-resistant or not suitable for water-related activities. Water-resistant watches usually have a specific level of water resistance and can withstand varying degrees of water exposure, so it's worth consulting your watch's manual or manufacturer's guide to find out how water-resistant it is.
